Pediatric Heart Sounds - Site License
The majority of children have a heart murmur if you listen well enough. Although innocent heart murmurs pose little to no risk for the patient, others heart murmurs, most often caused by defective heart valves, pose a significant risk. Furthermore, differing between patients who might have a significant cardiac pathology versus an innocent murmur requires both technical and cognitive skill. This application/website will instruct you using a programmed, organized approach to auscultation that should build your confidence.
These sound recordings were directly obtained from patients utilizing a stethoscope, amplifier and digital recording device. These recordings closely mimic the sounds heard during a normal cardiac examination, including sounds made by patient movement and respiration. This will closely simulate a real life situation. We hope your educational experience is rewarding.

The sound recordings presented here are best heard when played using external speakers and a sub woofer. If you are using a device with no or low quality external speakers, then high quality head phones are strongly recommended. High volume can cause hearing loss. Your ears are important. Turning up the volume past this point can cause permanent hearing damage.
